ONE STORY IN A PICTURE
TWO IDEAS, FRAMEWORKS OR CONCEPTS
This week we bring to you two concepts - Sleeper Effect & Severity of Initiation Effect
Sleeper Effect
Sleeper Effect is a phenomenon in psychology and communication. The basic idea is that over time, people tend to forget the source of information but remember the information itself.
Let's say a less credible source spreads a particular message. Initially, people might dismiss it due to the lack of credibility. However, as time passes, they may forget where they heard it and simply remember the message itself. This can lead to the message gaining unwarranted credibility in their minds.
In propaganda, this is a known tactic. It's why consistency and repetition in messaging are often emphasized. Over time, the source of the information becomes less important, and the message itself becomes more influential.

Severity of Initiation Effect
The Severity of Initiation Effect is a psychological phenomenon that suggests that harder it is to enter somewhere, more fulfilling the experience for the entrant, post entry.
In simpler terms, if someone has to go through a demanding or tough initiation process to become a member of a group, they're likely to value their membership more highly. This is because they've invested more effort and endured more to be a part of the group, which makes them feel more attached and committed.
This effect is often observed in fraternities, sororities, secret societies, and even in professional settings with rigorous onboarding processes.

Google Mitigated the Largest DDoS Attack Ever
Google mitigated the largest DDoS attack to date, peaking above 398 million rps. This attack was 7.5 times larger than the previous record-breaking DDoS attack, which Google blocked last year at a peak of 46 million requests per second.
The attack used a novel HTTP/2 “Rapid Reset” technique to disrupt websites and internet services. This technique takes advantage of a vulnerability in the HTTP/2 protocol, which is the latest version of HTTP. The attack highlights the growing threat of DDoS attacks. These attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and powerful, and they can have a significant impact on businesses and consumers. Read More »»»
