ONE STORY IN A PICTURE
TWO IDEAS, FRAMEWORKS OR CONCEPTS
This week we bring to you two frameworks -The Cobra Effect & Paradox of Unanimity
The Cobra Effect
The Cobra Effect refers to a situation where an attempted solution to a problem actually makes the problem worse due to unintended consequences.
Back in the day, the British government in India was concerned about the rising number of cobras in Delhi. So, they came up with a brilliant plan – offer a bounty for every dead cobra brought in. Seemed like a good idea, right?
Well, not quite. Instead of reducing the cobra population, people started breeding cobras to collect the bounty. When the government caught onto this snake-y scheme, they cancelled the bounty program. The breeders, left with a bunch of useless cobras, released them into the wild, making the cobra problem even worse than before.
The Cobra Effect teaches us the importance of considering the potential unintended consequences of our actions, especially in the world of business and beyond. So, before launching a new initiative, it's always wise to think it through from all angles!

Paradox of Unanimity
The Paradox of Unanimity refers to a situation where complete agreement within a group or decision-making process, while seemingly ideal, can actually lead to unexpected and suboptimal outcomes.
Imagine a decision-making scenario where everyone in a group is on the same page and agrees on a certain choice. You might think this would result in the best decision, since everyone's on board. However, here's the twist: when there's no dissenting voice, it can lead to a lack of critical examination. Potential flaws or alternative viewpoints might not be explored, ultimately leading to a decision that's less than optimal.
In the business world, this paradox underscores the importance of fostering an environment where constructive dissent is encouraged. Diverse perspectives can help uncover blind spots and lead to more robust decisions. So, while unanimity might seem like a dream scenario, it's crucial to strike a balance and ensure that a variety of viewpoints are considered to avoid falling into the Paradox of Unanimity trap.
