Google Violated Its Standards in Ad Deals, Research Finds
A new study by research firm Adalytics found that Google violated its own ad standards in 80% of the video ad deals, which they analysed. The study looked at a sample of 100,000 video ad placements on third-party websites and found that Google often placed ads that were not in compliance with its own policies. For example, Google promised that video ads would run with audio on and that brands would only pay for ads that were not skipped. However, the study found that Google often placed ads that did not meet these standards.
Google has disputed the findings of the study, saying that it has "strict policies" for its video ad program and that it "takes steps to ensure that ads are delivered in accordance with those policies." However, the study's findings raise questions about the transparency of Google's online ad business.
The study's findings come at a time when Google is facing increasing scrutiny from regulators around the world. In the United States, the Justice Department is investigating Google's alleged anti-competitive practices in the online advertising market. The study's findings could add to the pressure on Google to change its practices.
