TOP STORY
The war on the TikTok.
Since its arrival on the scene, TikTok climbed to the top almost instantly. So much so, that it has changed the way media is consumed fundamentally. Every other social media platform trying to compete with it, eventually went on to adopt their format of content delivery one way or another. But with great success, comes great scrutiny.
India banned Tik Tok about 3 years ago. Last year Taiwan did a public sector ban on it. Earlier this month Denmark, Belgium, US and Canada asked for the app to not to be used on devices used by government officials. Lask week UK issued similar orders, followed by New Zealand, France, Norway and The Netherlands. Almost everywhere, the governments seems to be getting in to a war against TikTok.
The social media app owned by Chinese technology company ByteDance has primarily been flagged for two concerns in all these countries:
The extent to which they are and they can share personal information of international users with Chinese Community Party.
The application - the non chinese version of it - is purposely designed to affect the cognitive ability of its users and is dumbing down the whole generation.
Off late there had been a lot of demand for a complete ban on TikTok in United States. So, on Thursday the CEO Shou Zi Chew went in front of American Congress to defend his organization as a responsible and ethical one.
on opines that he failed to make his case. You can watch the full testimony here.In the meanwhile, the news of an impending ban (it seems on 15th March US government had informed TikTok that they will be banned if they do not stop being owned by their Chinese parent company) has resulted in creators, performers and in general a large number of teen population carrying out protest in US & UK.
Here is a very informative Wall Street Journal article on the Winners & Losers of potential ban. Read On»»»
