I compiled this list of five year defining events from 2022 after revisiting a whole lot of news for a few hours and all I want to say is, I am sorry.

CoVid remained relentless
After two years and billions of vaccine dozes just when we thought that a new year will come with some respite, the world was swept with Omicron variant and as we are closing the year China is seeing unprecedented surge with millions of cases per day. CoVid is not over yet.
Russia invaded Ukraine, and the war is far from over
It wasn’t entirely unexpected when it happened and yet the world acted surprised. The bigger surprise was th resilience which Ukraine and her people showed in the face of Russia advances. While Ukraine is regaining lands, the war is far from over.
British Queen passed away at 96 after a reign of 70 years
The queen of England and regent of 36 states across the world, Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022 bringing the end to an era. The crown passed on to King Charles III. While for UK it was an event of profound sadness; in the earstwhile colonies there were mixed feelings and rest of the world was left questioning even the significance of royalty in 2022.
Climate event wrecked havoc across the world
No country remained untouched from the extreme climate this year. From the extreme heatwave across Europe to devastating floods in Pakistan to drough across China - the loss of life, nature and economy, has been incalculable. And, as I write this a cold wave is raging through USA.
We are almost 8 billion now
The world population first hit a billion in 1803. Now after almost 220 years we are getting to the 8 billion mark. The good news is that, we might seem to be slowing. This probably would be the first billion to take slightly longer than how much it took for last three billion marks took.
A snapshot of the year in Google Trends
A quick and simple way to see what has been on the top of the mind of the netizens is the search trends on Google. In 2022, Indians and Cricket reigned top featuring 4 times in top 10 searches. But, it was worlde which topped the chart!
